Brief
The superstruction on a flat roof of a 100 years old tenement provides 4
new appartments (approx. 370sqm living space). Due to strict building regulations
in the historic parts of Vienna the formal language of the project was significantly
restricted.

Design Intent
Each appartment has a large double height living space, a small south
terrace and a large roof top terrace. The project deliberatly uses a
strong color code in order to strongly contrast with the historic building.
Two formations of blue dormers, red kitchen boxes and the negative volume
of terraces cut into the inclined roof as completely autonomous structures.

Process
The architectonic concept plays with different volumes sticking out or
cutting into the obligatory 45° roof inclination: pleaded exposure
boxes, set back kitchen boxes, cut out terraces.
